01
Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms of Service (the "Terms"), our Privacy Policy and any plan-specific terms shown at checkout. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
02
Eligibility
You must be: at least 16 years old in the EEA and the UK; at least 13 with verifiable parental consent in the United States; at least 18 in India. You must have the legal capacity to enter a binding contract in your country. The Service is not available in countries subject to comprehensive US, EU or UN sanctions. If you use NextStep on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you are authorised to bind that organisation.
03
Your account
One account per person. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secret and for everything that happens under your account. Notify us immediately at security@nextstep.app if you suspect unauthorised access. We may require additional verification (such as confirming your email or completing a security check) at any time.
04
What the Service is
NextStep is an AI-assisted career copilot offered as a self-serve software product. It includes resume tools, application tracking, interview rehearsal, salary analysis, career-gap planning, English coaching and AI-generated coaching nudges.
NextStep is not a recruitment agency, an employer, a law firm, a tax adviser, a careers counsellor, an immigration adviser or a licensed financial adviser. Outputs are educational and informational; nothing in the Service constitutes professional advice. You remain solely responsible for every job application, contract and life decision you make.
05
Plans, pricing and auto-renewal
We offer Free, Active, Pro and Career Pulse plans, plus optional add-ons. Plans and prices are shown at checkout and may change for future billing cycles on at least 30 days' notice. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, as you choose) at the then-current price until you cancel.
All prices are in US dollars unless stated otherwise; applicable taxes and any currency-conversion fees are charged by your payment method or app store.
06
Earn-your-way trial
We do not offer a no-strings free trial. Instead, by completing specific onboarding milestones inside the app, you can unlock up to 15 days of Active for free. The trial never converts to a paid plan automatically — you only become a paying customer if you proactively add a payment method and choose a paid plan. No surprise charges.
07
Cancellation
You can cancel any subscription at any time from Settings → Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep paid features until then. Deleting your account also cancels any active subscription. Subscriptions purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play must also be cancelled through those stores, per their rules.
08
Billing
Web subscriptions are billed by our payment processor; iOS and Android in-app purchases are billed by Apple or Google under their store rules. We charge in advance for each billing period. A receipt is emailed for every charge. You authorise us (and, where applicable, the relevant store) to charge your payment method for renewals until you cancel.
09
No custom refunds
We do not offer custom refunds, money-back guarantees or outcome-based guarantees. Where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country, or the published refund rules of Apple's App Store or Google Play, give you a refund right, those rules apply unchanged. Outside of those windows, the cleanest way to end charges is to cancel from Settings — you can do this any time, and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
10
EU/UK consumer withdrawal
EU/EEA and UK consumers normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from distance contracts for digital services. By choosing to start using the Service immediately after subscribing, you expressly request that performance begin during the withdrawal period and you acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once performance has fully begun (Art. 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU and equivalent UK regulations). You can still cancel future renewals from Settings at any time.
11
AI outputs — no employment guarantee
AI-generated outputs (resumes, suggestions, scores, interview feedback, salary insights, English coaching, coaching nudges) are produced by statistical models and may contain mistakes, omissions or biased phrasing. They are advisory only. You are solely responsible for reviewing every output before sending it to a recruiter or sharing it with an employer.
NextStep does not guarantee that using the Service will result in an interview, a job offer, a salary increase, a promotion, a visa, or any other career, immigration or financial outcome.
12
Your content
You retain all rights to the content you create or upload (resumes, job notes, voice recordings, profile data). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, transmit, process and display your content solely to operate and improve the Service for you. We do not sell your content and we do not use it to train third-party models. You can export and delete your content at any time from Settings.
13
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- —Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or third-party rights, including intellectual-property, privacy and employment law.
- —Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, sexually explicit, or designed to mislead an employer about your identity or qualifications.
- —Reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, mirror or otherwise misuse the Service or its outputs to build a competing product.
- —Bypass any usage limit, security control, billing system or technical measure that protects the Service.
- —Use the Service to send unsolicited bulk messages, or to spam recruiters, employers or other users.
- —Share your account credentials with anyone else, or operate more than one account per person.
- —Use NextStep to develop weapons, surveillance tools or any application that would cause foreseeable harm to people.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, and we cooperate with law enforcement where legally required.
14
Third-party services
The Service integrates with or links to third-party tools (sign-in providers, payment processors, AI providers, job boards, calendar tools). We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, legality or content of those third-party services. Your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
15
Our intellectual property and your feedback
The NextStep name, logo, design, software, documentation and content (other than user content) are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of those rights to you. If you send us feedback, suggestions or ideas about the Service, you agree that we may use them without any obligation to you.
16
Suspension
We may suspend or restrict access to all or part of the Service if we reasonably believe you are in material breach of these Terms; if continued access would expose us, you or other users to a security, legal or safety risk; if a payment fails; or if we are required to do so by law. Where possible, we will give you notice and a reasonable chance to fix the issue first.
17
Termination
You can terminate these Terms at any time by deleting your account from Settings. We can terminate or refuse the Service to any user who repeatedly or seriously breaches these Terms, for accounts inactive for more than 24 months, or where we discontinue the Service entirely. On termination your right to use the Service ends; sections that by nature should survive — intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification and governing law — will survive.
18
Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY OF AI OUTPUTS, AND UNINTERRUPTED OPERATION. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free or that it will produce any specific employment or career outcome. Nothing in this section excludes any liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory consumer-protection law.
19
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY AND ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) US$100. IN NO EVENT WILL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOST PROFITS, LOST OPPORTUNITIES, LOST DATA, LOST EMPLOYMENT, LOSS OF GOODWILL OR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or wilful misconduct, or your statutory rights as a consumer in the EEA, UK or any other jurisdiction where such limitation is prohibited.
20
Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless NextStep, its affiliates and their officers, directors and employees from and against any claim, loss, liability, damage and cost (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your content; (b) your use of the Service in breach of these Terms; (c) your violation of applicable law or third-party rights; or (d) your misuse of any AI output. We will give you prompt notice of any such claim and let you control the defence, provided you do not settle in a way that admits liability on our behalf without our written consent.
21
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes we will notify you by email and via an in-app banner at least 30 days before the new version takes effect — your continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the change. Non-material changes (typos, clarifications) are effective on publication; the "effective" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. If you do not accept a material change, you can cancel and delete your account before it takes effect.
22
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which NextStep is incorporated (the "Governing Jurisdiction"), excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. The Governing Jurisdiction will be confirmed in this section before general availability. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the courts of that jurisdiction, except: (i) you may always bring proceedings in your local courts where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country gives you that right; and (ii) where binding arbitration is enforceable in your jurisdiction, we may agree to arbitrate on an individual (not class) basis.
EEA, UK and other consumer-protection rights that cannot be waived by contract are preserved in full and override anything to the contrary in these Terms.
23
Apple App Store and Google Play
If you obtained NextStep through Apple's App Store, Apple is not a party to these Terms. The licence to use the iOS app is granted by us; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support and no warranty obligation other than as required by law. If the iOS app fails to conform to any applicable warranty you may notify Apple, who will refund the purchase price; to the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
If you obtained NextStep through Google Play, you also agree to comply with Google Play's Terms of Service. We are not affiliated with Google and Google is not responsible for the Service.
24
General
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any plan-specific terms accepted at checkout, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject. If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest will remain in force. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, provided the assignee assumes our obligations. We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control (force majeure).
